Framing the image

In this photo there is a blur behind the main subject which draws your attention to subject that is in focus. With in the leaves you can see breaks of light that helps the contrast of  the colour of the leaves.

Rule of thirds

The rule of thirds do apply in this photo as the most important parts of the photo are the leaves in focus and are along the lines. 

Foreground/background balance

This photo is fairly balanced as there are high key points of lighting, and shaded parts on the leaf, showing a contrast of light and dark areas.
